Tiger Swallowtail (Gynandromorph)

A tiger swallowtail with gynandromorphism, i.e. with both male and female characteristics; the yellow side is male, the other side is the slightly-less-common dark form that females of this butterfly species can sometimes take. In a vintage frame with crackly warm gold finish & curved shape.

Please note: the finish on this frame has fairly substantial wear throughout; there is also some damage to the front at the top (the nail holding the sawtooth hanger in place hit a weak spot in the wood & pushed through to the front a bit) but with the way the whole frame has an aged look, I don't feel it detracts from the overall beauty of the piece.

Additionally: while I typically line the inner edges of the frames on these with mat board, I will not be doing so with this one. Mainly because of the curved shape, but also because I really love the way the texture carries over onto the back + I think in this case leaving it as it is will do more for the piece than me adding anything to it.

✷ The inner walls of the frame will be lined with hand-cut strips of mat board that complement the piece. Hanging hardware + artist signature on back of frame.

✷ The materials I use are often vintage, secondhand, and/or repurposed from remnants, and therefore may have minor imperfections that add to the overall character of the piece. Any flaws that I consider potentially more bothersome are shown in greater detail.

✷ The frame and painting are one complete piece; the glass is attached in a way that is intended to be permanent, and attempting to remove the glass from the frame will result in destruction of the artwork.
