A large green moth in a distressed gold frame with bold beading & black outer edge

Please note: I have discounted this piece slightly, due to a small "smudge" of gold on the side of the frame. I'm worried that trying to remove it will cause greater damage, but it does stand out a bit beyond what the expected distressing of this frame should be.

Approximate outer dimensions: 8 inches square (1 ¼ inches deep)

✷ The inner walls of the frame will be lined with hand-cut strips of mat board that complement the piece. Hanging hardware + artist signature on back of frame.

✷ The materials I use are often vintage, secondhand, and/or repurposed from remnants, and therefore may have minor imperfections that add to the overall character of the piece. Any flaws that I consider potentially more bothersome are shown in greater detail.

✷ The frame and painting are one complete piece; the glass is attached in a way that is intended to be permanent, and attempting to remove the glass from the frame will result in destruction of the artwork.

✷ Some tips on caring for my moth & butterfly paintings on glass

The story:

I paint these creatures directly on the front of the glass. The texture of the paint plays off of the surface to give the impression that they just happened to have landed there.

They aren't meant to look like perfectly-pinned specimens, they are meant to look as though they saw a frame sitting empty and simply thought it would be a good place to rest; as though they could fly away any second. Part of the story the pieces tell is in this illusion of a fleeting moment that has been frozen and can be held onto.

These paintings (as well as the frames, which have been carefully collected & selected) also represent a long-held love of gathering up things that may be somewhat ordinary or even unusual, but at the same time are beautiful and interesting and have a certain magic to them.
